Developing NZ indie artist Alexander Wildwood made a splash in the blogosphere recently when he released his debut single “Summer Skin” and follow-up “Bad Blood.” Both songs will be on his debut five track EP, “South of No North,”scheduled for release this November. In support Alex is releasing live in-the-studio acoustic performances of both songs on his You Tube Channel. Preview the series here: http://youtu.be/TC-dQxKigV0
Bloggers and fans love Wildwood’s enviable childhood growing up on a yacht in the middle of the ocean as much as his tightly crafted folk-rock hybrid sound that recalls the Delta Spirit and Ryan Adams. Trading in his sea legs for a home studio on New Zealand’s picturesque East Coast allows Wildwood to write, produce and record his own music as well as play the instruments in his songs exactly as he hears them in his head.
He draws inspiration from both his surroundings and his literary heroes – Hemingway, Salinger and Bukowski – to pen lyrics that read like journal entries laid bare. That’s exactly the energy and spirit that Wildwood hopes to communicate with his growing audiences through releasing his new songs as acoustic performances on video along with releasing the music itself.
“South of No North” is mixed by Nic Manders and mastered by Andy Vandette (David Bowie, Metric) and releases to Australia and New Zealand on November 21, to the UK on November 24, and to the US and the rest of the world on November 25, 2014.
Guerilla Nights says “Summer Skin” “is a track laced with summer sun rays baking a perfect blue day. If I close my eyes, I can see open roads-smiles from sunglass faced friends-riding against the wind. For the track kicks off with glorious romantic beats & lyrics. My favorite part is when the track slows down towards the end and the acoustic guitar takes over. Captures the speechlessness of feeling free at the end of the day. Can’t you see the sunset?”
“Bad Blood,” is described by Earbuddy as an “anthemic foot-stomper that will send you into a toe-tapping, hand-clapping fury once that chorus kicks in.”
Alexander recently join Aussie alt rockers Boy and Bear for several shows while on tour in New Zealand and is thrilled to support UK alt rock act Elbow on tour at the Power Station in Auckland, NZ this November.
