Today marks the highly anticipated release of Murray A. Lightburn’s first solo album, MASS:LIGHT. Since the mid-90s, Lightburn has fronted Canadian “indie rock” band The Dears, and is now embarking on a new chapter of his musical career. His debut solo effort evokes the dark imagery of Dune, the humor of Slaughterhouse Five and the urgency of Jesus Christ Superstar. Departing from previous expectations, Lightburn shows off his ability to rephrase various genres into a sound that is distinctly his own.
The so-called “electronic pop opera soundtrack” is performed on drum machines and synthesizers, and features some orchestral arrangements. It is now available as the first ever release from The Dears’ own label TING DUN worldwide: digitally, direct from The Dears online store, iTunes, Amazon, et cetera. There are still a few limited edition vinyl left, available with a download of exclusive bonus tracks.
Lightburn is scheduled to perform his first official solo concert at the 12th edition of POP Montreal Festival on September 26, 2013. To celebrate this milestone, he is giving his fans a 2-for-1 deal, inviting the first 100 guests the chance to bring a friend for free. For ticket info visit here.
“MASS:LIGHT is made up of beautifully executed electronic pop anthems, with moody synths fleshed out with pensive beats, crooning vocals and orchestral flourishes.”
