New Astralwerks signing Halsey is excited to announce she’ll be joining The Kooks on their upcoming US tour, beginning September 24th in Santa Ana, CA. The tour will take the rising star across the country including a stop at LA’s Wiltern Theater and ending in Huntington, NY’s The Paramount. Halsey, a huge fan of The Kooks herself, shared the news with her fans via Twitter on Friday, which became a trending news story shortly after.
Halsey’s signing was announced at the end of July, including the release of her new single “Ghost”, a track that explores the tragic and laughable intimacy of human relationships in her signature take-no-prisoners approach. SiriusXM Hits 1, the first to take notice of this bright young talent continues to play “Ghost” multiple times per week following massive airplay this summer, with tastemaker press such as Neon Gold calling her “A teen dream Ellie Goulding with all the adolescent swagger of Lorde.”
The 19-year-old musical powerhouse and provocative pop ingénue captivates on first listen, displaying a song-craft and lyrical sensibility far beyond her years. With left-of-center dark-pop hooks, sultry vocals and unapologetic honesty, Halsey is an undeniable force to be reckoned with both on stage and in the studio. An EP is planned for later this year.
Halsey is New Jersey native Ashley Frangipane. HALSEY (an anagram of her first name) is taken from “Halsey” stop on the L train to Brooklyn. It’s an appropriate representation of her alter-ego, having been born in New Jersey, but defined by the city of New York. She infuses her sugar-spun pop with a purposefully bitter aftertaste that is quite tongue-in-cheek.
