Aussie rockers Avastera have announced they have found their new lead singer.
After former frontman Mike Lang was asked to leave at the start of 2013, the Perth-based band opened auditions for the role, accepting applications from all around the world.
With interest shown from as far and wide as the UK and Canada, as fate would have it, the voice and guy that stood out above them all was Perth’s very own Dylan Symonds.
Lead guitarist Chris Hanssen explained the band’s decison, saying: “We opened our search for our new singer on a worldwide basis. Essentially, anyone could apply. We received applications from the USA, Canada, Australia and the UK.
When we received Dylan’s application, we were blown away by the demo he sent us. He was the one that really stood out for us. We were more blown away when we found out that Dylan was actually located right here with us, in our hometown of Perth, Australia. Perth is a small town but we had never even met him before.
In the end it came down to Dylan and an applicant from Canada who did amazing covers of our songs. We took Dylan because his voice is essentially what we were initially after since we started as a band. We rehearsed with him a few times and his voice complimented our sound perfectly. In the end, the decision was unanimous. Everything felt natural, not just the voice but he as a person as well. He’s just like us!
With Dylan on board and Avastera back in full-form, we’re stepping it up from here and can’t wait to release this upcoming record when we hit the studio this July in the USA with Paul Leavitt!”
Avastera’s new frontman Dylan Symonds said: “Joining Avastera is where my dream begins. I have a long road ahead of me and wish nothing more than to further emulate the love for music this band shows. Where that will take us is the exciting road ahead!
“Before joining Avastera, I first heard about them when they played some of their very first shows at clubs here in Perth. The word about the band got around town pretty quickly and I’ve kept a watchful eye ever since. It wasn’t long until I saw these guys depart Perth and begin touring overseas with some huge names. Already loving this band, I jumped at the opportunity when they announced they were searching for a new vocalist. Now here I am working on the new record with them.”
The band recently recorded an acoustic version of a new track “Secrets” to showcase Dylan Symonds’ incredible voice.
Avastera are set to head to the US in July 2013 to record their new album with legendary producer Paul Leavitt (All Time Low, Yellowcard, The Dangerous Summer).
