Interview with Singer Zach of “It Lies Within”

HHM – Hi I’m Bella with Hellhound Music and I am here with Zach from “It Lies Within”

Zach – What’s up guys, how are you doing today!?

HHM – So, how was your show last night in Kettering Ohio?

Zach – It was really awesome, we had a great time out there. It was an adult venue, we played with Casino Madrid last night, always good friends. It was cool that we had another show in Ohio on our way here.

HHM – So how was it sharing the stage with bands like Emmure and We Came As Romans?

Zach – I mean honestly you try not to be starstruck, these are people that you look up to, and these are people that I learned a lot from. I am just so blessed honestly to just share the same stage as them, I dig it.

HHM – I know you probably get asked this a million times but, where did you get your start?

Zach – It could be a long, long story but I will make it as short as I can, we are all members from other bands that kinda just formed. Most of us went to high school together believe it or not, after the whole college trip, the whole corporate thing trying to figure out life we realized this is bottom line what we want to do, and this is now our fulltime job.

HHM – So does tour life ever get super crazy?

Zach – It’s not as glamorous as everyone wants to make it sound, but at the same time I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I love it, I love my “bros”, I love eating rough, I love sleeping rough, I just love going out there and meeting new people every day. This is what I am doing and it is worth it so far, so who knows.

HHM – What is the sound you are going for with the new album?

Zach – That is a tough question, we try to be original just like everybody else. We are very influenced by other bands like As I Lay Dying, Miss May I, etc. I am a big fan of Motionless In White right now. Honestly I love, love, love all metalcore right now. I love what the bands are doing and I think it’s growing, so yes thumbs up, I’m stoked!

HHM – Alright, so what have you been finding yourself listening to a lot lately?

Zach – I mean honestly, the cd that has not left my car is the new “Forte” cd, it’s absolutely mind blowing. I am really anticipating the new Motionless In White cd, I have always been a huge fan of The Devil Wears Prada, I mean the list goes on and on. The new Miss May I cd, Abandon All made me mad though, thumbs down!

HHM – What is your favorite tattoo that you have?

Zach – I don’t really know because I have one big one, you know what I mean, but I think the heart on my chest; ( life like style heart tattoo on middle of chest) it goes out to all of the ladies who stabbed me in the heart, so remember that.

HHM – What are your plans for the future?

Zach – We have a couple more festivals coming up, we have a lot going on. What I am really stoked for is the tour we have coming up from November 1st – 18th with Apparitions, we are really excited so hopefully you guys stay in touch!

HHM – Definitely! Is there anything else you would like to tell your fans?

Zach – I just want to thank you guys so much, obviously without you guys we wouldn’t be here. I mean that, it is very, very important for us to meet bands, fans, and awesome people like yourself.

IT LIES WITHIN started making their dent on the scene in 2008 with their new line-up and different style. After quickly earning an opening slot for a few National Acts at their hometown venue The Machine Shop, ILW immediately hit the studio to track their 2009 release “Fears of Yesterday.” Recorded with Dreadcore Productions (Joshua Wickman: Within the Ruins, And Hell Followed With, Knights of the Abyss) and Cloud City Studio’s (Nick Morris, Walls of Jericho, As They Sleep, The Black Dahlia Murder) this EP was dead set in the right direction from the start. This EP differed from many Metalcore styles at the time having many harmonic leads, solo’s, and powerful chorus’s. Recently signing with Luxor Records October 31st, 2011, they immediately went back in the studio to record their first full length album. The much anticipated new album “Chrysalis” is going to be hair raising and demonstrate the bands originality, maturity, and development.

Making a name for themselves in the Midwest, the group sold over 3,000 copies and counting of “Fears of Yesterday” on their own! This was a direct reflection of their relentless efforts to tour as much as possible. It Lies Within has played many large festivals and events including Rockapalooza, Bledfest, and The Carnival of Chaos. Creating such a buzz the title track “Fears of Yesterday” was featured on Nickelodeon’s and Mtv 2’s TV Series “Shreducation” season 2 and the new single “Home is Where the Heart is” has already been featured on radio stations Banana 101.5, 89X, WRIF 101, and many college stations across the country.

This life long group of friends are on a non-stop path to shed a different light on the Metal scene. Because of this diversity they are a very entertaining group. Having opened for many National Acts and selling over 3,000 copies on their own; this band is always ready to take on bigger ventures!

Taking 2012 by the horns, It Lies Within has already played numerous sold-out shows with The Devil Wears Prada, All That Remains, We Came As Romans, Times of Grace, War of Ages, Chiodos and Asking Alexandria. “Chrysalis” is set to be released on September 4th, 2012 with tons of major Tour announcements posted soon.

It Lies Within is:
Zachary Scott (Vocals)
Matthew Michael (Guitar)
Michael Siva (Guitar)
Justin Faron (Bass)
Kamron Mead (Drums)
