Big Wreck took home the prize in the two categories they were nominated in last night at the 2012 CASBY Awards – “Favourite New Album” for Albatrossand “Favourite New Single” for the #1 rock radio hit of the same name. Ian Thornley thanked the fans as he accepted the awards on behalf of Big Wreck, who also headlined the concert/award show. The band closed off the night with a captivating performance of their award winning hit, as well as fan favourites “That Song”, “Wolves”, “The Oaf” and “Come Again”.
Representing the best in Canadian new rock, CASBY winners are determined completely by the fans — through nationwide fan voting on www.edge.caOver the years, CASBYs have been handed out to Arcade Fire, Billy Talent, City & Colour, Metric, Sam Roberts, The Sheepdogs and many more.
Big Wreck’s latest album Albatross (Anthem/Warner) debuted at #5 on the Top 200 SoundScan chart in Canada and hit #25 on the US Billboard HeatSeekers chart. Big Wreck were the first Canadian band to hit #1 on the Canadian rock radio charts with the lead single “Albatross”, in over a year. “Albatross” held the #1 spot at rock radio for six weeks. Their current single, “Wolves” is #4* on the rock charts.
This fall, Big Wreck hit the road for an extensive cross Canada tour with Theory of A Deadman. The tour will cover 22 Canadian cities, including a special performance at Toronto’s legendary concert theatre Massey Hall on November 26th.
