BLACK TAXI Brings Their Explosive Electro-Pop to CMJ & New Fall US Tour Date

By on October 3, 2013

After wrapping up a series of dates with Moon Taxi last month, Black Taxi will hit the road again this week for a run of dates across the U.S, including a stop at New York’s CMJ Music Marathon where the band is playing 3 showcases.

Black Taxi have built a reputation as one of the best live acts out of Brooklyn, and spent the spring writing and touring the US virtually non-stop, road-testing their new material before heading into the studio late this summer to record their recently released Chiaroscuro EP (No Shame).

Since the  success of their 2012 sophomore full-length We Don’t Know Any Better, they have  steadily garnered new fans at every turn, receiving critical acclaim along the way from outlets such as Consequence of Sound, The AV ClubTime Out New York and more.

Formed 6 years ago when frontman Ezra Huleatt and bassist Krisana Soponpong met on a chance encounter at a rave in Thailand, the two quickly bonded over mushroom milkshakes and the fact that they both called NYC home.  After inviting Kris’ friend Bill Mayo to join the band and finding drummer Jason Holmes after a show, Black Taxi was officially born in 2007.  Their hyper-charged grit-pop dance punk has carved out a unique niche for the band in the NYC music scene, allowing them to sell out nationally recognized venues such as Bowery Ballroom multiple times over and making them one of the city’s best-loved live acts.

“Through the heaps and heaps of electronic dance driven bands out there, [Black Taxi] have been able to use all of their musical knowledge to blend genres together effortlessly.”Prefix

“Chiaroscuro marks a seemingly more mature and self-assured (though no less fun) phase of the band’s development.”Beats Per Minute
