Blue-Eyed Son announces the long-awaited release of a new set of songs, Shadows on the Son.  The new 5 track EP which follows up the idiosyncratic charm of Blue-Eyed Son’s 2004 breakout debut West of Lincoln presents new ways to soar with a song and will be available May 28 on Eenie Meenie Records.  The band will be touring the US in support including dates with Freedy Johnston – current tour dates below. Lead track “All Went Black,” whose loping strut, trumpet and chimes shine luminous rays onto a New Orleans-like carnival of sound, is available for exclusive download via Under The Radar online.  Get it here:

Led by Andrew Heilprin, a surf instructor by day who formerly fronted the sonic punk band 40 Watt Domain, Shadows On The Son’s sound leaves little doubt that Heilprin’s time on the beach lent some direction to the vibe of Blue-Eyed Son’s new tracks Along with “All Went Black,” there’s the quickstepping “Good Men Die Like Dogs” curly-cueing electric guitars and banjo, the anthemic “We’re Fighting a War” is a cinematic melting pot of epic string swells and marching drums while “Golden” skips along with bright references to sun and sand and the straightforward hopefulness of “Hold On” closes Shadows On The Son.

Along with Heilprin’s songwriting and lead vocals, the EP features a superb cast of players including Goldenboy multi-instrumentalist Shon Sullivan, trumpet man Danny Levin (Regina Spektor, Snoop Dogg) and banjo master Willie Watson (Old Crow Medicine Show, Watkins Family Hour). Shadows On The Son was produced by Australian singer-songwriter Matt Ellis and engineered by Ronan Murphy (King Crimson, Terry Bozzio, Nels Cline).
