Seaewe Records releases Unknow You, the debut album from Boston’s Brother & Co. Recorded and co-produced with sound engineer Joe Tooley at famed Q Division Studios in Somerville, Massachusetts, Unknow You showcases the band’s combination of contemporary American folk, art rock, post-rock, and ambient music. The album features singer/songwriter Josh Pritchard on guitar, piano, and vocals, as well as New England favorites Andy Plaisted (drums), Dave Westner (bass), John Pritchard (guitar), Scott Aruda (trumpet), and Joel Edinberg (saxophone). Unknow You is now available on iTunes (<>).

Last month, American Songwriter premiered Brother & Co.’s official music video for single “Drawing Board,” which was created by filmmaker/animator Nathan Broersma using a variety of stop motion animation techniques (<>). Elmore Magazine premiered a live video of single “Lila” and offered readers a free download of the MP3 (<>). Additionally, Boston’s The Noise recently gave Unknow You not one, but two glowing reviews:

“…uncomplicated but highly rhythmic guitar and percussion lines, a refreshing lack of vocal melodramatics, and an overall atmosphere which one might call ‘ambient buzz.’”

“What stands out most about this album, what makes it so unique and moving is the timbre of the singer’s voice. Hands down. It’s a deep, yet wispy voice that despite its smokiness is still waterlogged with feeling… If my lucid dreams had a soundtrack, this would probably be it.”

Brother & Co. will celebrate the album’s release next month with concerts in New York City on January 5th at Rockwood Music Hall and at home in Boston/Somerville on January 9th at Johnny D’s, opening for Sirsy (<>).

Brother & Co. is the musical creation of singer/songwriter Josh Pritchard, former leader of rock band Ruin/Renewal (Burst and Bloom Records). True to the name Brother & Co., Pritchard—who has a twin brother—assembles a rotating company of outstanding musicians to compliment his songs both live and in the studio. Although he’s been recording and performing in the Boston area since 2009, Pritchard has, in a lot of ways, been reborn with the launch of Brother & Co. In addition to relaxing his sound and utilizing a new and larger cast of colleagues, the project is his first creative undertaking since becoming sober in 2011.

“To be entirely clear-headed and alive to the whole process of making Unknow You was so fulfilling,” he says. Each of the eleven songs on Unknow You contain reflections on a series of changes that roiled Pritchard’s life. Within a short period of time, he became a 9-to-5 professional, a husband, a new father, and a graduate student. On the album, Pritchard and his “company” portray these experiences through different musical landscapes. Thematically, the record explores the concepts of memory, identity, heartbreak, and perseverance.
