The song catalog of legendary Canadian songwriter-singer-guitarist BRUCE
COCKBURN has been acquired by Rotten Kiddies Music, LLC, a new BMI
subsidiary of Carlin America, a major independent music publishing
organization.

An Ottawa native with over 30 record albums to his credit and a highlyvisible
political and environmental activist, Cockburn is now regarded as a
national cultural treasure of his home country and among its most
influential musicians. An international concert headliner and one of the
esteemed songwriters of his time, Cockburn’s career began in 1965 when
he joined The Children, the first of several groups before he became a
featured regular on the popular 3’s a Crowd CBC music TV series and
recorded his 1970 self-titled debut solo album.

Among his nine Top-10 singles are such signal achievements as GOING TO
THE COUNTRY from his 1970 debut album, his 1979 WONDERING WHERE
THE LIONS ARE from Dancing in the Dragon’s Jaw, IF I HAD A ROCKET
LAUNCHER and LOVERS IN A DANGEROUS TIME from the 1984 Stealing
Fire, PEOPLE SEE THROUGH YOU from his 1986 World of Wonders album
and the 1988 environmental anthem IF A TREE FALLS from the Big
Circumstance collection. His album Nothing But a Burning Light (1991)
included 4 charted singles and 4 other albums, Humans (1980), Stealing
Fire (1984), Big Circumstance (1988) and Dart To the Heart (1994) had 3
singles each that also reached the charts.

Cockburn, who is one of the most technically accomplished guitarists on
the music scene, has also composed for television and films and wrote the
opening and closing themes for Franklin, the long-running children’s
television series seen all over the world. Moreover, with a continually
growing catalog of over three hundred titles to date, many of Cockburn’s
songs have been recorded by a wide diversity of significant artists such as
Chet Atkins, Barenaked Ladies, Jimmy Buffet, Judy Collins, Elbow, Dan
Fogelberg, the Jerry Garcia Band, George Hamilton IV, k.d. lang, Maria
Muldaur, Anne Murray, Holly Near, Tom Rush, etc., etc.

In a recent statement, Carlin America President and Chief Executive Officer
Caroline Bienstock said, “We are so pleased and excited to welcome Bruce
Cockburn to the Carlin roster that includes such other music giants as
John Sebastian, Jim Steinman, AC/DC, Billie Holiday, James Brown and
Stephen Sondheim. Bruce has continued to be among the most prolific,
versatile and important songwriters in popular music, and we are very
eager to begin pursuing the many revenue opportunities his extensive
catalog makes possible.”

When contacted at his Ontario home, Cockburn declared, “The time
seemed right to try to bring this music to the attention of a wider audience.
When the people at Carlin expressed interest in buying the catalog it felt
like the songs had found a perfect home. I’m looking forward to working
with them.”
