Citadel, the music project of Philadelphia-based multi-instrumentalist, producer and founder of music subscription startup, FeedbackLoop, Justin Chapman, will be releasing a self-titled EP on May 7th, 2013. Needing a creative outlet that was free of time constraints and genre parameters, Chapman formed Citadel as a collaborative effort between several of Philadelphia’s most prominent singers and songwriters. Citadel’s self-titled EP blends live instruments, homemade synthesizers, and electronic elements into a dark and heavy blend of indie-infused pop. Featuring the likes of Philadelphia artists such as, Lucy Stone, Will Lindsay, and Geoff Vanover, along with Chapman’s touch, the album includes unique collaborations that will leave you craving a full length. Opening with “Heartstrings”, Stone’s voice brings you quickly into a trance as the layered beats keep you wondering what is next. With “Stand Next To Me”, the opening whistles create the fun-filled groove that causes this track to bring a Top-40 pop feel to the album.

Chapman tells us, “To me this EP (and the project as a whole) is an excuse to get together with the artists I work with as a producer, and take them out of context to write something that neither of us would have written on our own. There’s something to be said for liberating yourself of fan/artist/label expectations and just doing whatever you want. I think it helps keep us on our toes, and keeps our ears fresh. These first four songs also represent a pretty wild and transitional time in my life”.

Citadel will release its self-titled EP on May 7th, 2013.
