Digits Premieres New Video for ‘Street Violence’

By on April 1, 2013

Digits a.k.a. Alt Altman has released the new video for ‘Street Violence’ off his In the City of the Dead album with Noisey alongside a Q&A. The video, styled after the classic film The Warriors, follows a young woman and her mysterious savior on the run from several ruthless street gangs. It pairs perfectly with the concept centered In the City of the Dead LP, part of Digits’ zombie-themed project, the video acting as a prequel to the zombie outbreak. After releasing a song each week, the now complete album tells the full story started in the video.

Based in Toronto and Berlin, Digits specializes in sparse, forlorn electronic pop. With the release of his Death and Desire mixtape in April 2012 (featuring a Nite Jewel remix), the accolades started flowing in. Clash Music called it “a superb introduction to a new talent,” with the following tracks met by praise from The FADER, The Guardian, The Toronto Star, and Boston Phoenix, and deemed by Black Book as ‘One of the 25 Artists That Will Define 2013.’ He has collaborated with Au Palais vocalist Elise Commathe on the track ‘Last Trip’ which premiered on The FADER along with the video premiere of ‘Love is Only Affection‘from the Only Affection EP out now.

Digits disseminated the tracks for In the City of the Dead in a manner of his own, one at a time, each on a different blog. “I only had the first three songs when I started releasing it, and then I was forced to continue the story and write a new chapter and song every week,” he told Noisey. In addition, he shares the tracks for free, offering them to anyone who can show they’ve recently purchased music from another musician. Using two synthesizers, a laptop and a looping pedal, he’s developed a live presence that has led to  sharing the stage with Junior Boys, YACHT, Katie Stelmanis of Austra, Cadence Weapon, and Class Actress in addition to upcoming shows with Doldrums.
