In support of her stunning debut solo album, Some Heavy Ocean, Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Emma Ruth Rundle is set to embark on a June /July tour in the U.S.  Kicking it all off in Los Angeles, Emma will play a free in-store performance at Amoeba in Hollywood and from there she will meet up with King Buzzo (of the Melvins) as support to him on his solo acoustic tour starting on June 28th.  There are also a handful of her own headline shows where she will be joined in Chicago by label mate Dave Davison (Maps & Atlases) and then in NY, Philadelphia and Washington DC by Stephen Brodsky (Mutoid Man / Cave In) all performing their acoustic sets. In July, Emma will join her  band Marriages for West Coast tour dates with Boris and in August, she will make her European live debut at the Sargent House label showcase in Dublin. Check out the full tour routing below and watch a live acoustic performance of “Oh Sarah” a track from her album Some Heavy Ocean filmed in the Sargent House Glassroom  here.

Some Heavy Ocean was released last month on Sargent House and has been hailed as “stunning” by the AV Club, “intense, hypnotic folk” by Stereogum and “one of the best records of 2014” by Music & Riots.  The album was recorded at Sargent House’s home studio in Echo Park, where Emma sequestered herself for two months working on Some Heavy Ocean. An apt title if ever one existed, the album swells and crashes, waxes and wanes, ebbing and flowing, the way all great albums do.

Emma Ruth Rundle got her start in 2007 when she assembled the now defunct folkgaze collective The Nocturnes for the purpose of performing her work.  The following year, she was drafted into the monolithic post-rock supergroup Red Sparowes.  Touring the world playing the Sparowes’ epic brand of instrumental heaviosity sparked a fruitful musical connection with fellow Sparowes guitarist Greg Burns.  When that band commenced a well-deserved hiatus in 2011, she and Burns (on the invitation of Russian Circles), instigated a new group, Marriages, who released a stunning debut mini-album, Kitsune.  Meanwhile, Rundle and friends as The Nocturnes reconvened briefly in 2011, issuing a full-length album, Aokigahara, while solo she recorded an album of experimental guitar compositions.  What followed was a “dark, difficult time”, marked by family problems and personal struggles which, though exhausting emotionally, also incubated Rundle’s conviction to use their inherent misery as fuel for expression.  And with that, in May of 2014 Some Heavy Ocean was born.

In addition to her upcoming tour dates, Emma Ruth Rundle will be releasing a music video for the track “Arms I Know So Well” from Some Heavy Ocean.  Details and video premiere coming soon.
