FM99 WNOR presents “Lunatic Luau 16”

May 6th at Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater by Gary Horton

It was a gloomy chilly Friday evening as I watched the crowds of fans come driving into the parking lot. The shuffling of feet heading towards the entrance of the venue. The line up of 11 bands two stages was on schedule.  Starting off the event was a local band “Fallout of Fear” which had the right tone and vocals to heat things up. On to the main stage where “Red sun rising” set the tone for the night. Bouncing back to the side stage “Wilson” a Detroit rock band with some serious beats and riffs. Shuffling back to the main stage we find a heavy hitter “Sevendust” opening up with “thank you” followed by “Shine” and a couple more songs. As they exited the stage we hurried over to the side stage to catch “Unlocking the truth” a young upcoming band with a distinct sound. Now fast forward back to the main stage where “P.O.D” enters the stage and blows things up with “Boom” followed by “Rock the party-off the hook” the loyal fans of POD showed there excitement. Ending there set with “Alive” we quickly headed back to the side stage to check out “Trivium” a well know rock monster setting off the crown with “Strife” followed by “Rain” a crown favorite shall we say let the body surfing begin.  Ending there set with “In waves”. Flash to the main stage where “Bush” is you heard me Bush making a come back hit the stage pulling no stops with “Machine head” followed by “The chemicals between us” playing all there hits for the young and older fans. We started back to the side stage for one more band. As they enter the stage the fans are cheering and screaming out “Ghost” starting off with “From the Pinnacle to the pit” to “Stand by him” this was a favorite of the fans they couldn’t get enough of ghost. Now with 9 bands checked off we head back to the main stage where “Shinedown” enters the stage.  This band originally from Jacksonville, Florida formed in 2001 with 5 albums they come to rock the house and they did killing it with Fly from the inside, Diamond eyes, I’ll follow you and many more hits they left the stage with happy fans. Now on to the headliner a all time favorite of mine and a thousand other screaming fans. “Five finger death punch” enters the stage and set off the crowd with “Life me up” heavy riff double kick drumming licks just set the mood. Followed next with “Hard to see”, “Never enough” and a crowd favorite “Bad company” hit after hits a total of 11 songs ending with “The house of the rising sun” its a great ending to another epic festival known as Lunatic Luau.
