Gill Landry, who just released his self-titled third album, is not only a singer-songwriter but a multi-instrumentalist, adventuresome photographer, rubber tramp gentleman, self taught painter, shade tree mechanic, and then some. He’s played guitar, banjo, pedal steel, and been a contributing songwriter in Old Crow Medicine Show, whose 2014 release Remedy won the Best Folk Album GRAMMY.
Landry is currently in the middle of a twenty-two-date tour with cutting-edge songstress Laura Marling, which spans the UK and Europe including four shows at Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. To the delight of audiences, Marling and her band have even been joining Gill on stage each night.
Many artists contributed to the musicality of Gill’s latest record, from Marling who duets on “Take This Body”, an urgent plea that imagines the desperate love that courses through our impermanence, to trumpeter Nick Etwell of Mumford and Sons, who plays with tasteful power on a handful of songs. From Odessa, who lends harmonies and violin to a number of tunes, including the waltz-time love letter “Emily”, to Robert Ellis who’s eloquent and understated guitar work on “Fenario” and “Bad Love” is mellifluous.
After opening for Justin Townes Earle earlier this year, Landry is returning to the US this summer with an exclusive run of headlining shows. Head below to check out his upcoming tour dates with Dawes, Brandi Carlile and more.
