Glamour Sits Down with Kina Grannis to Chat before her European Tour

By on January 27, 2012

You may already know the darling Kina Grannis. She’s a YouTube sensation, a rising star, a singer-songwriter who is going at the whole music biz thing in her very own way. She’s got her posse of fans that call themselves the “Kinerds.” And her In Your Arms video, a delightfully peppy song that’s getting everyone’s attention from Ellen DeGeneres to Jimmy Kimmel, stars Kina and 288,000 dancing Jelly Bellys. We got the chance to chat with Kina just before she hit the road for her European tour, more after the jump!
Some Kina fun facts:
– Her first real performance was in high school. She brought her guitar and was forced to play a song in her AP math class.
– In 2008, she won the Doritos Crash the Super Bowl contest after submitting a video of herself singing in her bedroom. The prize was a recording contract with Interscope Records, which she wound up turning down.
– Just four short years ago, she was asked to play a show at the Ford Ampitheater in LA with a bunch of local artists. When she got there, she realized they were playing outside the venue in the courtyard. Now, this spring, she’ll be headlining that very same venue to close her North American tour.
– Kina initially distributed her latest album Stairwells in February 2010 through her own website. It sold so well that it debuted on the Billboard chart
