Philadelphia, PA’s GLOCCA MORRA are angry, and they’re not afraid to let everyone know. It’s immediately apparent from the very first song on their upcoming debut full-length, the wryly titled JUST MARRIED (out July 10th on Kind of Like Records). The song, titled “Ya’ll Boots Hats (Die Angry)”, whose joyfully catchy lyrics declare, “I’ll be dying angry, I need to get out of the city,” just before collapsing into a raucous chorus complete with gang vocals and Cap’n Jazz-esque guitar riffs premiered today on RCRD_LBL and is available for free download at: http://rcrdlbl.com/2012/05/17/premiere_glocca_morra_ya_ll_boots_hats_die_angry_
“The album is mostly about being bummed out, failed relationships with all people, alcohol and drugs,” says singer/guitarist Zack Schartz. And though this is true lyrically, Just Married is an exhilarating, upbeat indie success of an album which shines with inventive guitars, frantic, driving rhythms and tightly crafted songs that make it impossible to listen to without bobbing your head along to the songs. From the contrasting delicate glockenspiel and rough vocals of “Broken Cigarettes” to the meandering, loose guitars and horns of “Irrevocable, Motherfucker”, Just Married is packed with musical surprises and an aesthetic that seamlessly blends beauty and ugliness to create an unbelievably enjoyable record.
Members JP Casanova and Zack met when they attended school together in Miami, FL. After a chance encounter with Arik Dayan – “Arik was our substitute teacher in high school and we thought he was an asshole,” claims Zack – fate found the three writing songs together just a few short years later. The trio eventually decided to move to Philadelphia to be among kindred music spirits in bands Algernon Cadwallader, Snowing, 1994!, where they recorded and released a split with friends The Greek Favourites, and recruited their friend Nate Dionne (Snowing) to play guitar with them as well. And although the band recorded Just Married months ago – as Zack puts it, “it got lost for a long time,” Kind of Like Records recognized that the album is just too good, and it would be selfish not to share Glocca Morra with the world.
