Recently signing to Park the Van Records, Los Angeles band He’s My Brother She’s My Sister continues to tour behind Nobody Dances in this Town LP, set for a January 22 release. The band will perform at Austin City Limits Festival this Friday, October 12, sharing the stage with Esperanza Spalding and Alabama Shakes, as well as Saturday, October 13 at the Stubbs afterparty with the Civil Wars. He’s My Brother She’s My Sister will also return to NYC for two shows, making its first appearances since its sold-out set at the Knitting Factory this past January.
Featuring sibling vocalists and a tap dancing drummer, the eclectic troupe exudes the earnestness of folk, the colorfulness of glam rock, the rawness of blues, the theatrics of cabaret, and the hip shake of rock-a-billy. Brother and sister Robert Kolar and Rachel Kolar split vocal duties, with Robert on guitar and kick drum and Rachel on tambourine. Their voices range from boisterous to introspective, from breezy to emotive. Lauren Brown adds full-body percussion with her simultaneous drumming and tap-dancing. Oliver Newell plucks the stand up bass with joyous flair. Aaron Robinson plays lead guitar on a lap slide, veering from nuanced psychedelia to American roots riffs. In the past year, the band has played over 150 live performances, with near-capacity crowds in 16 major US cities. They have toured the US extensively and have shared the stage with Neko Case, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Charles Bradley, The Blow, Local Natives, Dawes, Dr. Dog, My Morning Jacket, and many others.
