Featuring sibling vocalists and a tap dancing drummer, the eclectic troupe exudes the earnestness of folk, the colorfulness of glam rock, the rawness of blues, the theatrics of cabaret, and the hip shake of rock-a-billy. Brother and sister Robert Kolar and Rachel Kolar split vocal duties, with Robert on guitar and kick drum and Rachel on tambourine. Their voices range from boisterous to introspective, from breezy to emotive. Lauren Brown adds full-body percussion with her simultaneous drumming and tap-dancing. Oliver Newell plucks the stand up bass with joyous flair. Aaron Robinson plays lead guitar on a lap slide, veering from nuanced psychedelia to American roots riffs. In the past year, the band has played over 150 live performances, with near-capacity crowds in 16 major US cities. They have toured the US extensively and have shared the stage with Neko Case, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Charles Bradley, The Blow, Local Natives, Dawes, Dr. Dog, My Morning Jacket, and many others.
The band will embark on an extensive U.S. tour, starting on September 15 in Santa Barbara with two stops in Canada. He’s My Brother She’s My Sister will return to NYC for two shows, making its first appearances since its sold-out set at the Knitting Factory this past January. The band will also perform at Austin City Limits Festival on Friday, October 12 on the same “Google Play” stage as Esperanza Spalding and Alabama Shakes.
