Highasakite Share New Track After US Touring Debut

By on April 8, 2013

Norwegian dream-pop quintet Highasakite have returned to Oslo after an incredible SXSW and US debut, but in their wake they’ve left us with a beautiful track, ‘Everything Sank In You,’ which premiered at Teen Vogue. The band chronicled their successful first US outing by showing some of their favorite new NYC spots to BlackBook, as well as stopping by Paste’s SXSW Riverview Sessions for a beautiful rendition of the single ‘Indian Summer,’ taken from their acclaimed In and out of weeks debut EP (Propeller Recordings). The band, comprised of Ingrid Helene Håvik (vocals, zither), Trond Bersu (drums), Øystein Skar (synths), Marte Eberson (synths), and Kristoffer Lo (guitar, percussion, flugabone, tuba), are now setting out on a string of European festival dates before returning to the studio to record the followup to In and out of weeks, to be released this fall.

Highasakite, “bridges the gap between sensible pop, progressive rock, and Norwegian folk music” (Interview Magazine: “Discovery”), is “that rare band whose knack for glistening pop is matched by their ability to tap into the experimental ether,” (SPIN) and “performs with such unbridled and childlike ecstasy that it’s easy to imagine them forming at a commune where they spent their nights singing around a campfire.” (Aritzia). Called, “a thing of hazy loveliness” (NME) and, “a little moody, a little folky, but not in the way Of Monsters and Men fit that description…there’s a lot more personality going on here” (BrooklynVegan), the band took flight when Håvik and Bersu met while studying jazz at the Trondheim Jazz Conservatory. With Bersu on drums and Håvik singing and playing zither, the duo enlisted producer Thomas Dahl (Krøyt) to help them capture the sounds they were hearing in their heads, and expanded to a five-piece shortly thereafter. With the release of their Norwegian debut, All That Floats Will Rain, the band started playing live, gaining ‘Best New Act of 2012’ accolades from the Norwegian press. After surpassing expectations on their first US tour, with their performances highlighted by PAPER, CMJ, HitFix, PASTE, MTV Iggy and more, the excitement can only make us anticipate their return even more.
