The critically acclaimed North Carolina group Lost In The Trees is unveiling a brand new music video for the song “Villain (I’ll Stick Around)” care of IFC.com. The sonically beautiful and emotionally resonant track is from the band’s latest album A Church That Fits Our Needs currently available on Anti-records.

The video was directed by the Creato Destructo team in conjunction with Lost in the Trees and offers a visually stunning meditation on love, pain and past hurts.  As the group’s singer and songwriter Ari Picker explains,

“Villain (I’ll Stick Around)” is about listening to someone’s troubled past and seeing them through it, rather than being driven away by it.  It is about understanding that most situations are not black and white; heroes make mistakes and villains have virtuous qualities.

The song was written on a fall day.  The sunlight was coming through the windows and bouncing off the mirrors, creating little golden ghosts all around the room.   The song’s lyrics and string arrangement, as well as the video’s color palette, were all influenced by these apparitions.

All of the special effects in the video are “handmade”.  The reflections were created by building a one-way mirror maze, the floating bodies suspended by precarious wagon contraptions. “

A Church That Fits Our Needs is the follow up to the band’s breakthrough Anti -Records debut All Alone In An Empty House. Esquire called the new album “a luxuriantly orchestrated remembrance that ping-pongs between introspection and celebration” while The Los Angeles Times described it as “stunningly gorgeous.” The record is an immensely ambitious work inspired by loss and transformation. Far from being a somber affair, the group has utilized rhythm as its own emotional language, never losing the propulsive vitality of great rock and roll.
