Inflated Records Announces So Cow/Squarehead Split LP – “Out Of Season”

By on October 11, 2012

On November 13th, Inflated Records will release Out of Season– a split album featuring two of Ireland’s finest guitar pop trios – So Cow & Squarehead.  Listen to Squarehead’s “More Quickly” on Pitchfork and pre-order the record here.  Both bands will travel to NYC for the annual CMJ Music Marathon.

Listen/Post Squarehead “More Quickly” MP3

Having already put out a slew of 7″s and two critically acclaimed LPs, the past year has seen a change in dynamics for So Cow. Everything up until now was recorded solely by frontman Brian Kelly, however, Out of Season marks their first release as a full band. The result is something new and raw, foreshadowing LP #3, which was recently recorded with Deerhoof’s Greg Saunier.

When compared to their jangly debut, Squarehead’s side of the split oozes with a completely different energy. The distortion-drenched lead single, “More Quickly,” erupts with blood curdling screams that would have been out of place on the previous record, but at the same time, it seems like a perfectly natural progression for the lads.

Praise for So Cow
“So Cow is the embodiment and flamboyant persona of artist Brian Kelly. His sharp fetching melodies and quick witted lyrics make for a popular treat.” — AOL Spinner

“So Cow main man Brian Kelly told the blog Hi-Fi Popcorn last year. “I like the idea of someone listening and going, ‘Ah, that’s what I thought!” If you’ve ever been young and unlucky in love, the Irish multi-instrumentalist has a song that will strike exactly that kind of emotional chord.” — Pitchfork

“One of the best bands I’ve seen in ages, in fact, and a lovely bunch of lads. Classic herky-jerky DIY punk in the vein of XTC, Wire, Television Personalities, all the greats.”— MAXIMUM ROCKNROLL

Praise for Squarehead
“Following the band’s buzzed-about singles and spots opening for Titus Andronicus, Male Bonding, and No Age, Yeah Nothing is brimming with hit after hit of youthful punky power pop.” — The Boston Phoenix

“It’s pretty catchy stuff, scruffy indie pop with nods to the Beach Boys, Weezer and The Thrills.” — Brooklyn Vegan

“Buzz can be a damaging force, as weight of expectation forces acts into creative corners before they’ve even begun. Thankfully that’s not the case with Dublin’s Squarehead, whose debut album lives up to the effervescent promise of their live show.” — The Irish Times
