Introducing rap girl gang PEARLS NEGRAS and their Biggie Apple mix tape. A collection of tracks which reflect the danger and colour of their home in the Vidigal favela (one of slum areas of Rio close to the beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana), filled with lyrics that express the life of a teenager in one of the roughest and biggest cities in the world. Their music and lyrics are a direct contrast to the misogynistic lyrics of Rio’s baile funk parties with song titles like “Traffic In Ideas”and “Mr President” reflecting the social disaffection and the daily protest happening in the city’s centre. Lyrics not expected coming from the mouths of girls who still wear braces in their teeth. Their preference is for fast, aggressive hip hop beats matching their aggressively charged performances.
Performing in their local area, the girls caught the attention of and have collaborated with English producers David Alexander and Jan Blumentrath who have worked with some of the strongest names in American alternative hip-hop, namely Yo! Majesty and Dominique Young Unique.
