It’s time that you take a dip in the dreamy waters of Israeli indie-pop band The Secret Sea. The group formed back in 2010 when front man and acclaimed folk artist Amit Erez joined forces with some of his favorite musicians with one sole ideal: create music with a purpose.
Amit is one of the most substantial songwriting talents to emerge in the Tel Aviv Indie scene this past decade. He emerged as a phenomenal finger-picking guitar player and songwriter, commonly referred to as “The Israeli Indie Prince” and “The Israeli Elliott Smith.” He won the Vox Populi prize of the Independent Music Awards in 2008 for his single “Postcard”. That same year he performed at the Livorno Lovewave Festival in Italy opening for The Chemical Brothers and was chosen to play at the Popkomm conference. Amit’s albums were distributed in Germany and were supported by European tours. He also toured Europe and the US as the guitar player for Israeli Art Rock group Eatliz.
The Secret Sea take great pride in their old fashion music making process. Their latest LP Secret Sea was released last year but was in the works for over two and a half years. The group’s musical dedication can be heard within each of their songs that are filled with real instruments, sweat and a hours of practice. The band constructed each tune by carefully piecing together enchanting melodies and harmonies until they were perfect.
The band describes their journey as an “indie quest” of six musicians trying to show the world that there is more to their native land than war and politics. With their latest album, the band takes you through a series of unique compositions telling tales of life and the destiny, depression and fear we encounter. While the songs discuss very personal matters they are delivered in lighthearted pop-rock anthems.
The Secret Sea will embark on a European summer tour on May 29th in Barcelona at the Primavera Sound Music Festival.
Secret Sea was released on Anova Music Records and is available now.
