|Punk/folk legends The Pinkerton Thugs are the most influential, original, and revolutionary American punk bands to come out of New England. The band consists of high school buddies Paul Russo (vocals/guitars) and James Whitten (bass) as well as long-time friends Tom Gatton (drums) and Mike Kadoymia (guitars). Forming in Maine in 1994, the band was widely respected for their musical integrity and intelligent lyrics as well as their contribution to the resurgence of American punk rock in the 90s. They are best known for their spirited live performances as well as their thought-provoking views on the working class and society.
Attempting to put their ideas to action, the band has become one of the most vocal advocates of the Occupy Wall St. movement and will be playing guerilla-style shows at occupations throughout the north east. The band also started a collective called the ALU which set out to distribute revolutionary literature for free and establish better communication between activists.
During most of the band’s existence, Paul Russo was also a member of Boston bandThe Unseen, as well as playing bass for Anti-Flag for a period of time. Both of whom the Thugs often played shows with. Their recorded debut was a 7″ E.P. titled “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit Of Shit” and was self-released on the band’s own Police Records in the U.S. and by Nefer Records in Canada. In addition to that record, The Pinkerton Thugs released two full albums (“The Pain and The Pinkerton Thugs” on V.M.L. Records and “End Of an Era” on Go Kart Records as well as a split 7″ with the Ducky Boys, and a 7″ on Go Kart Records titled “The Times.”
The Pinkerton Thugs have a dedicated and loyal fan base and continue to play to packed rooms. They are now signed to Jailhouse Records and will be re-releasing all of their back catalog as well as a brand new album in the spring/summer of 2012. The band also plans on hitting the road in 2012 to tour the U.S. with Continental (Rick Barton from Dropkick Murphy’s new band) where the demand to see them live has been huge.
