Jimmy The Mouth: My Body Is A Christmas Tree Review

By on January 3, 2013

Jimmy The Mouth aka Ishani Bagga’s body may be a wonderland but relax gentlemen; for this album… it’s just a Christmas tree. With the release of My Body Is a Christmas Tree, Ishani apologizes for a questionable display of poor quality: due to a lack of time and proper recording infrastructure, however; This apology ripens the fright too quickly, as today’s listener is a bit more in-tune and may carry a preference for her more “raw” and stripped down sound. With the performance of Christmas classics like “Silent Night” and “O Holy Night” Ishani adds her own folk driven sound of acoustic haunt while maintaining the necessary sense of seasonal heart warmth our ears so festively seek out. It is in the rendition of “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” that her pure vocal talent & range take center stage; with no auto tune or theatrics to hide behind, the listener is introduced to Ishani’s beautiful voice and its trailing vulnerability.

In the album’s title track [a personal favorite] Ishani’s haunting vocal tone (catalyzed by her taunting acoustic antics) delivers the most well-rounded display of her musical talent; one can’t help but be reminded of artists like Anya Marina and Kelly sweet. You can name your price and grab the album on Bandcamp today; it’s not too late to open a bottle of Pinot Noir, crank this album, and recover/unwind from the stressful family Christmas we all know you just had.
