JULY TALK Release Debut Self-Titled LP OCTOBER 16

By on September 30, 2012

In one short year, JULY TALK, the Toronto Indie Rock/Pop five piece fronted by Peter Dreimanis and Leah Fay, have became one of Toronto’s most exciting live acts. After selling out hometown shows, performing nationwide alongside Arkells and opening for Sam Roberts Band, the band is ready to release their debut self-titled album. Available in-stores October 16 through Toronto Indie label White Girl Records, July Talk’s debut LP will be available online for pre-salestarting September 27.
Despite their relatively young union, the primary pair behind July Talk has already established its own sonancy: a sound rooted in roots and Americana with the dual-voice charm of Johnny and June, the creepy quirkiness of Tom Waits, and the hooks of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. It’s a very unique blend that borrows from different decades and domains, though where those influences begin and end is cleverly disguised.
Most special about a July Talk experience, though, is the foiling of Dreimanis and Fay as personas; who they are inside or outside of the public eye and just what it is that exists between them. Lyrically, the pair plays with the juxtaposition of gender roles and perspectives, distorting social preconceptions. It’s often a war waged between clashing personalities in a frame that shares two perspectives of the same relationship – at times conflicted, at times chaotic, most times just downright bewildering.

Joining the passionate duo to complete July Talk is Ian Docherty (guitar), Danny Miles (drums) and Josh Warburton (bass). Together the five-piece manage to create polarizing sonic dynamics, from whiskey-whetted lyrics at the forefront of a few softly-strummed chords to a flurry of frantic shouting, overdriven guitars, and pulsating rhythms. The loudest “louds”, and the most haunting “quiets”.

July Talk’s self-titled album was recorded at Toronto’s Dream House Studio with Producer/Engineer Alexandre Bonenfant (Metz, Crystal Castles, Diamond Rings) and mixed by Jon Drew (Arkells, Tokyo Police Club, Fucked Up).
July Talk will be kicking off their Fall tour with a hometown show on October 19th and wrapping up in Kingston on November 10th. Full tour details are below.
