Keep Cake Shop Alive, Keep the Music Going!

MuseBox+Cake Shop+PledgeMusic

As you know, we here at The MuseBox exist out of our love for music and music culture and want to expose it to you. In other words, we get off on turning you on to great music. With that in mind, we take real pride in helping out a few fellow lovers of music who have taken a similar ethos and actualized it in the form of the one and only Cake Shop, NYC’s own legendary music venue/café/record store which, since its inception, has functioned as the beating, bleeding heart of the Lower East Side’s thriving music scene. The last few months have proved difficult for Cake Shop, as financial hurdles, including new taxes and security costs surrounding forms of i.d. the venue is allowed to accept, have made the possibility of losing the historic space a very real possibility.

Because Cake Shop wants to remain open to keep bringing you new music, we are proud to introduce the Cake Shop “Keep the Music Going!” Pledge Music Campaign. By becoming a pledger you will not only gain access to a host of exclusives, including a mixtape curated by Cake Shop founders Andy, Nick, and Greg, guest lists, secret showcase options, and free drink tickets, you will be playing an integral role in maintaining the longevity of Cake Shop and the independent music scene it has lovingly fostered since 2005.

Acts like Surfer Blood, Jeff the Brotherhood, The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, MGMT, Vampire Weekend, Dirty Projectors, tUnE-yArDs and many more played several of their first gigs here, and artists and fans worldwide respect and regard the venue as not only a launching pad for success, but the home of indie music in Manhattan. We love live music and we want nothing more than to see Cake Shop keep doing what they’ve been doing. We’re guessing you feel the same way. So get involved. If you love music, it’s your scene too.

Pledge here: http://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/cakeshop to show support and respect for one of the most historic music venues open today.

GRAVEDANCER:
Gravedancer is gearing up to release the new albums from CHROME WAVES and CONAN this July. Look for both bands to be on the road in the coming months. We are happy to announce that we have forged an unholy alliance with our brothers NACHTMYSTIUM that will see Gravedancer Records unleash very limited 7″ splits from the band’s early years. These splits will also feature black metal luminaries such XASTHUR, KRIEG and MURMUR. We have also come to terms with Century Media Records and will soon unleash NACHTMYSTIUM’s CM catalog on cassette. Limited runs of ‘Worldfall’, ‘Doomsday Derelicts’, ‘Assassins: Black Meddle Part I’, ‘Addicts: Black Meddle Part II’ and their upcoming ‘Silencing Machine’ will be available soon! Gravedancer Records is also excited to reveal that we have signed Los Angeles’ Doctorshopper and will be unleashing ‘Degenerate Utopia’ on the masses soon! Catch Doctorshopper on tour throughout the west coast with Wreck And Reference this summer! We are also excited to reveal that we have formed an alliance with Profound Lore Records that will see Gravedancer issue the upcoming full length from Chicago’s YAKUZA on vinyl.

MUSIC UNITES:
Last night, Monday, June 18, legendary Mick Fleetwood celebrated the grand opening of his art exhibit “Rhythm Of A Rose” at The Mouche Gallery in Beverly Hills where he held a silent auction to benefit Music Unites, the non-profit organization dedicated to sustaining funds for music education programs in underdeveloped school districts. This exclusive event was flooded with a list of “whose who” in the art and music worlds with a cameo from Bret Lockett (NFL, New England Patriots). Mick was seen signing his artwork to be auctioned off that evening and smiling as he shmoozed and introduced himself to fellow party goers.

SOCALLED:
In its third year, Yiddishfest will be taking over the Central Park Summerstage in New York once again…this time with acclaimed hip hop, klezmer, indie electronica artist SOCALLED on board. The admission free event takes place on June 26th, which will be celebrating “traditional Klezmer and modern interpretations” that blend all genres from hip hop to rock. Socalled will be taking the stage alongside high profile acts such as The Klezmatics. For those of you who have never witnessed the SOCALLED experience, Josh Dolgin mixes a concoction of sound that boils down to funk-meets-hip-hop-meets-indie-electronica. SOCALLED, also known as Josh Dolgin, creates melody dashing and crashing through all parts of the musical spectrum. He doesn’t shy from embracing his Jewish roots and delves into the realm of Klezmer, all the while continuously putting out hip, danceable tunes and walking (and sometimes straddling) the fine line between absurd and genius. A pianist, producer, composer, arranger, rapper, singer, journalist, photographer, filmmaker, magician, cartoonist and puppet maker; SOCALLED is all of the above and more. Recently releasing his fourth album Sleeopver, last year, SOCALLED has gained great success in the online world, and has a viral video (“Work With What You Got”) to prove it.

STRAIGHT TO THE SUN RECORDS:
Straight to the Sun Records first signing Maximo Park get set to release their album digitally stateside July 3rd, and announce their first North American tour in 5 years for this September. The album will be available physically in stores August 28th.
