Kendra Morris premieres cover of the Rolling Stones’ “Miss You” / Mockingbird LP out 7/30

By on June 22, 2013

Last month New York’s rising soul-siren Kendra Morris announced her sophomore LP Mockingbirdwhich finds Morris giving a soul-infused makeover to 14 classic songs that span the past five decades. With that announcement came the first offering – Morris’s “soulful spin” (Wall St Journal) on Radiohead’s “Karma Police.” Today Kendra and her label, Wax Poetics Records, are thrilled to unveil the second single “Miss You” (originally by the Rolling Stones), courtesy of USA TODAY

Of the iconic “Miss You,” Kendra shares, “As a fan of the Rolling Stones discography, “Miss You” stands out as one of their more soulful songs to me. Plus coming out in the 70s you can certainly hear the influence that disco had on it.” Kendra adds, “For our version we definitely took the whole disco vibe and brought it even further towards a lounge lizard kind of thing. Mick does some great vocal riffs throughout the song and I was really excited to discover my own version of his oohs and ahhs as well.

As USA TODAY alludes to, “Miss You” has a very special music video that awaits to see the light of day. Concocted by photographer/videographer Marc McAndrews and Morris, this is a video that you will NOT want to miss. Stay tuned for more details.

Mockingbird which hits 7/30 via Wax Poetics Records, has Morris and her prolific band—headed by guitarist/producer Jeremy Page—bringing their distinct brand of soul into songs by: Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Bettye Lavette, Lou Reed, Soundgarden, the Proclaimers, the Beach Boys, Metallica, and more!  Lastly, don’t miss Kendra Morris and her band on the road, as they play a few one offs throughout the summer on BOTH coasts – please see all details below.
