NoBullSongs Records announced today the release of a new studio album, Troubadour Tales, by celebrated Americana and Alt-Country songwriter-producer Kenny Butterill . The CD, a follow up to his widely successful 2004 release Just A Songwriter, is a compelling collection of a dozen stories and songs about real life, love and romance – all transcendent.
The album features over twenty world-class guests including Donovan, Cindy Cashdollar, Redd Volkaert, Ray Bonneville, Zoe Muth, Audrey Auld, John Lee Sanders, Linda McRae, Jim Lewin, David Grier, Rob Ikes, and Washboard Hank. Importantly, this album marks the last recording of the late, great Sarah Elizabeth Campbell who adds rich harmony on the song “Greatest Love Story Never Told”.
Recorded in ten studios over the past year, the album includes a cameo appearance by the original Donovan Leitch on the song “Gaia Blues”, adding what can only be called a perfect harmonica duet to Kenny’s vocals. The song, a siren call about mankind’s relationship with Mother Earth features most of Butterill’s musical guests singing as a choir at the end of the song.
The Troubadour Tales album also includes the blistering satirical “Good Thing That Couldn’t Happen Here” and “Flying With Buddha” a poignant song about life and death. Other highlights include “Hocus Pocus”, Butterill’s personal tribute to JJ Cale, a hero to many, which was recorded in 2013 three weeks before Cale’s passing.
“It was an honor to work with Kenny. This is one of the best albums I’ve ever heard. I know Cale would have liked it too,” shared producer David Teagarden, a long-time colleague and friend of JJ Cale who mastered the CD in Tulsa, OK earlier this year. Often compared to JJ Cale, Gordon Lightfoot and John Prine, Kenny Butterill has been called ‘the romantic poet of Americana music’ by capturing the feel and groove of these legendary artists.
The album has already charted in the top 10 on Airplay Direct as part of its pre-release to the global DJ/radio community. Butterill is touring through 2015 in North America and Europe to support the release.
