“Lantern Lights” by The Hiding

There’s a reason I don’t buy or download singles. It’s hard for me to fully appreciate a song when I don’t have anything to stack it up against. That being said, “Lantern Lights” is pretty catchy. Think piano-rock with an electro pop twist. There are constant harmonies and a persistent beat that never takes center stage but is ever present. While it’s not something I’d listen to on repeat, I admit the song is actually pretty. I also admit that if it came up on the radio I probably wouldn’t switch stations right away. If you have four minutes, give this one a shot.

Band Bio:

The Hiding (Anthony Salce, Ryan Di Cecco, Adrian Perri and Joe Torre) are an Australian band who formed out of a previous band in the summer of 2010. This project saw them tour Australia supporting some of the country’s most respected national and international acts. Due to a direction change, it was at this point The Hiding was born.

The Hiding released their debut self titled EP in April 2012 which was pro
duced by Jimi Maroudas (Kimbra, The Living End) and mixed in Los Angeles by world renowned mix engineer Mark Needham (The Killers). The two singles from this EP were spun across 140 college radio stations throughout the USA and Canada.
Furthermore, another song was selected to feature in an episode of Australian reality TV show ‘The Block’, which was seen by over 1 million viewers.

Some of the band members attended CMJ’s (2011) and SXSW (2012) to get a feel for what other bands internationally were producing and to generally gain knowledge and learn about international music market. They made some valuable international contacts and learnt some valuable lessons.
The Hiding saw the importance of these festivals and have since been selected to showcase as a band at this year’s CMJ festival in New York 2012.

The Hiding hit the studio again with Jimi Maroudas to produce two follow up singles that will get released in conjunction with their CMJ showcase in September 2012. These tracks were work shopped with Berklee song writing lecturer Pat Pattison who worked with the boys to ensure their song writing tools were constantly evolving.
