Minneapolis-based indie-rockers Lucy Michelle & The Velvet Lapelles recently performed a session for Daytrotter, which is available for you to listen to now at the link below:
Speaking of the band’s songs, Sean Moeller of Daytrotter writes, “These songs, while strong and backboned, come off sometimes as delicious whimpers, the people singing them willing to take any scraps that might come their ways. They’re neither beggars nor choosers. They’re survivalists and Lucy Michelle makes them sound as if they’re bundled themselves up into their own cozy trenches where they whittle away, biding time. They keep their lights as bright as they can, their skin smelling like smoke and old hugs. They will get theirs when they get theirs and it will taste great.”
The four songs the band performs are from the band’s newest full length, HEAT, which was released on earlier this year. HEAT is the band’s fourth full-length release and their first since 2010’s Good of That. The album was recorded at Vacation Island Recording Studios in Brooklyn with acclaimed producer/engineer Matt Boynton (MGMT, Beirut, Bat for Lashes). HEAT spotlights the band’s eclectic musical style, creating a brilliant wash of organic psych-folk from a blend of interweaving ukeleles, accordion, electric guitar, upright bass, cello, drums and (of course) Lucy Michelle’s uniquely recognizable vocals.
