Hallelujah! I’m A Bum Out This Week
National Tour Begins

CMJ Shows Confirmed

Local H premiered the raucous live video for “Cold Manor” this week on Revolver Magazine’s website. It’s the first single from Hallelujah! I’m A Bum, also out this week, on Slimstyle Records. The 17-track, double-album has already been widely praised, with iTunes calling it “their bravest, most provocative, and most ambitious album to date” in an album review.

Local H kicked off a national tour last night with a hometown gig at the Bottom Lounge in Chicago. They’re at the Troubadour in Los Angeles next Monday (9/24) and have confirmed two shows during the CMJ Music Marathon in New York: 10/17 at Webster Hall (Marvin Room) and 10/18 at The Bell House in Brooklyn. Full itinerary below.

The “Cold Manor” video was directed/compiled by Local H frontman Scott Lucas, who intercut concert clips shot by fans over the past few years with studio footage from the recording of Hallelujah! I’m A Bum. Watch it here:

Hallelujah! I’m A Bum is the seventh studio album from the pioneering two-man, Chicago band — Lucas covers both guitar and bass through an extra pick up in his guitar while drummer Brian St. Clair pounds out the rest of the sound — who are known for their gut-quaking live shows and incredibly loyal fanbase. The album was produced by metal guru Sanford Parker (Yakuza, Bloodiest, Pelican) and showcases the band rocking harder than ever. It’s an epic concept record that sees Lucas setting his sights on the deeply divided political climate that exists in the U.S. and around the world, using his hometown as a backdrop to sardonically comment on how this polarization personally impacts people — within their communities, their neighborhoods and even within their relationships. A dog theme runs throughout, making it a fitting companion to the band’s widely praised 1998 concept album Pack Up the Cats, which earned a spot in SPIN magazine’s top 20 albums of that year. This is their first album of new material since 2008’s critically acclaimed 12 Angry Months, for which the Chicago Tribune named them “Chicagoans of the Year,” more than a decade after their breakthrough hit “Bound for the Floor” ruled the Modern Rock charts.

What critics are saying about Hallelujah! I’m A Bum:

“…well-executed and likely to stand the test of some years.” – Thomas Conner, Chicago Sun-Times

Hallelujah! I’m A Bum is a watershed album for Local H. Not only is it the most intricately arranged and carefully structured of the band’s 20-plus-year history, but it is also their first to delve so deeply into the polluted waters of partisan politics… [Lucas’] lyrics capture a sense of disillusionment that should be familiar to anyone who’s been paying attention over the past four years… Musically, Hallelujah! is on par with the best entries in the H catalogue. Lucas has a knack for crafting heavy rock with strong, distinctive hooks.” **** – Joe Hemmerling, Tiny Mix Tapes

“Nearly 20 years into their recording career, Local H are not only still making great music, but have released their bravest, most provocative, and most ambitious album to date, and Hallelujah! I’m a Bum is a powerful look into a side of America that will be uncomfortably familiar to nearly everyone who hears it.” – iTunesalbum review

“Local H’s new album continues this uncanny run of solid material with Hallelujah! I’m A Bum.. [“Blue Line”] encapsulates many of the musical themes running through the album and captures both the wistful airs and the fury that makes it such a compelling listen. We understand some may simply view Local H as a loud, savage rock band, but the thing that makes them endure is the fact that underneath it all there’s a vulnerability that truly drives the music’s beating heart. Give it a listen and we think you’ll agree with us…it sounds like Lucas is at the top of his game when it comes to challenging himself, resulting in a really strong song suite.”-  Jim Kopeny, Chicagoist.com

“With Hallelujah! Local H has successfully done what both Romney and Obama failed to do at their recent conventions: they don’t just tell you how fucked we are, they make you feel it over and over again. You can feel the struggle of the middle class, the hopelessness of knowing that neither party cares for the ones who elect them into power and the overwhelming fact that we have grown so far apart as a nation that it’s going to take more than a miracle to bring us back together… Local H has made a stellar soundtrack that truly represents the great struggles of our time.” – Reverend Justito, Antiquiet.com
