Brooklyn via London synth-pop group Lovelife has teamed up with Neon Gold for the release of a AA-side 7″ single, ‘Your New Beloved’/’Dying To Start Again,’ due out June 17. Pre-Order is HERE and the band will be performing at the label’s massive Popshop West show in Los Angeles on June 11 with Kate Boy and Bom Bom. Tickets are available HERE. Lovelife has been touring North American with LA pop duo Capital Cities, and is wrapping up a final set of dates with R&B-pop quintet The Neighbourhood on the west coast.
We’ve gotten to know Lovelife very well over the past couple years since they shore-ditched London and moved to Brooklyn to write the next great American tragedy. So we’re over the moon to announce our next 7″ release from the men in black, “Your New Beloved” / “Dying to Start Again”, a double-trouble bundle of sinister pop that encompasses our most macabre daydreams and darkest nightvisions.
Lead single “Your New Beloved” is one of our absolute favorite songs of 2013 and sounds like electronic gospel from the distant future, as Lee Newell’s yearning voice is filtered through a black-and-white vocoder over an industrial backdrop of dystopian synths. The flipside, “Dying to Start Again”, is a more upbeat, brass-laden number that brings your old flame back to life like a mood ring flickering between shades of grey.
Lovelife, aka Lee Newell and his compatriot Ally Young, spent half of 2012 in New York City, where they played a string of dates in and around the city capped by a set of breakout performances at CMJ Music Marathon, earning praise from Yours Tru.ly, Under the Radar, Entertainment Weekly, and more. The band released two self-produced EPs in 2012 (El Regreso and The Fourth Floor), the latter on UK label National Anthem (HAIM, Chvrches), receiving over 300,000 plays on SoundCloud and 25,000 downloads, and have performed with Fitz and the Tantrums, St. Lucia, Flume and more. The band also debuted a new video for their single ‘Your New Beloved’ with MTV Hive last month, which went Top 5 on the Hype Machine.
Lovelife utilizes swirling synth pads, impassioned vocals and robust, precise beats to create a blend of smooth, brooding R&B and shimmering pop with more substance than most. Their infectious hooks and slick production have drawn a legion of fans in their short existence, which is poised to grow even further after their return to the US.They’ve also done official remixes for The Killers, Neon Trees, Maroon 5 and Imagine Dragons, and there are more in the works, along with a new EP of original material later this summer.
