Lucero have included a cover close to their heartstrings on the new record: Big Star’s “I’m In Love With A Girl”. Courtesy of the Wall Street Journal, you can now listen to cover featuring Big Star drummer Jody Stephens HERE.

All A Man Should Do is also now available for pre-order at iTunes and the band’s website. Exclusive to indie record stores and limited to only 1,372 copies (a nod to the band’s old home address and album “1372 Overton Park”), the band is also releasing a bootlegger’s edition of All A Man Should Do vinyl. Each jacket is individually hand-stamped and numbered by ATO Records, while the vinyl is made with a combination of randomly mixed colors, making each copy of this release truly unique.

Working with producer Ted Hutt (Old Crow Medicine Show, Flogging Molly) for a third time at Memphis’s Ardent Studios, the band felt comfortable enough to take some chances with a palette of new tones that sound understated yet powerful, bringing life to the stories behind the lyrics without overshadowing them.

This is a Memphis record in the greatest sense and a perfect finish to the three-part love letter to a city that brought them up and made Lucero what they are today.

“It’s pretty wild recording a Big Star song with members of Big Star at Ardent Studios, where Big Star recorded. We were like little kids in the studio, in the control room watching them out there on the floor singing harmonies.” – Ben Nichols

Lucero has found its groove within the soul-sopped history of its native Memphis while evolving alongside other bands like The Hold Steady and the Drive-By Truckers – regional mainstays whose evocative portraits of thorny daily life challenge preconceptions and seek deep home truths.” – NPR Music

Lucero‘s new album All A Man Should Do contains some of the most resonant lyrics Ben Nichols has ever written. They read like chapters from his life: the duality of relationships, getting older, finding where you want to be in this world and more.

“I was 15 years old in 1989,” Nichols explained. “This record sounds like the record I wanted to make when I was 15. It just took 25 years of mistakes to get it done.”
