Montreal, (QC)-French-singing rockers Malajube have announced the U.S. release of their new full-length La Caverne via MB3 Records (Royskopp, Gavin Friday). The digital version of the album will be released on July 12th with a physical release date of September 13th. The band who recently performed in New York with The Besnard Lakes and Wintersleep have been killing it with mainstream English audiences despite their adherence to singing in French. The band deliver music that veers from progressive pop to dance floor centric indie rock, complex but always catchy. The high degree of songwriting led early press to lovingly tag them as the French language cousin of Arcade Fire.
La Caverne is the band’s fourth full-length album following highly regarded predecessors Le Compte Complet (2004), Trompe-L’Oeil (2007) andLabyrinthes (2009). Members Thomas Augustin, Francis Mineau, Mathieu Cournoyer and Julien Mineau self-produced the album with long-time collaborator Ryan Battistuzzi mixing. The album’s title (the cavern in english) is taken from the studio the album was recorded in Quebec which the band says was a “geodesic modern cavern, with multiple triangular faces.” The album has wowed press in early reviews such as Pitchfork who said “the band has exhibited a knack for fusing psychedelia, prog- and classic-rock, disco, and new wave into exuberant, easily grasped big-tent indie pop.” Chromewaves said that “La caverne is leaner and more focused than either Trompe-l’oeil or Labyrinthes and also possibly their most immediate.”
Look for the band to announce U.S. tour dates in the near future.
