Mike Abiuso, guitarist for local Boston alt-cabaret-rock band The Venetia Fair, and owner of SwitchBitch Records and Studios, shared his experiences after the terrifying attack on the Boston Marathon last Monday with Substream Music Press. Though he wasn’t at the grounds of the bomb, he gives his account of events as they unfolded around him, and others close to him.
“My heart went straight to my mouth as I immediately stopped what I was doing to call my mother back. I then had to get in touch with my cousin who goes to Boston University along with members of my band and all the local bands on SwitchBitch Records to be sure that they were ok and somewhere safe.
They were all quite shaken up. Janele of The Wicked was in Boston but she couldn’t talk and was leaving immediately. Our friends in local Boston band Emma Ate the Lion were extremely lucky. They had taken photos hanging out right where one explosion occurred only moments later.”

ABOUT THE VENETIA FAIR:
Since the release of their debut album “The Circus” in 2009, The Venetia Fair have been making serious noise in the music scene with their dynamic fusion of sound, hitting everything from pop to punk – hardcore to jazz. Imagine The Used meets Foxy Shazam combined with Panic At The Disco’s first album on acid and you might have something as unique and influential as The Venetia Fair. Often referred to as brilliantly odd, schizophrenic, or mental, the band takes their unique genre and translate it to a fierce and theatrical live show, leaving fans wondering what they just experienced and craving more.
Consisting of Benny Santoro (vocals), Mr. Chark (bass), Mike Abiuso (guitar), Joe Brown (keys), and Chris Constantino (drums), TVF has shared the stage with notable acts such as Foxy Shazam, Finch, The Sleeping, Vanna, Bless The Fall, Hit The Lights, Dance Gavin Dance, The Dear Hunter, Versa Emerge, Our Last Night. They amazed and entertained fans across the country when they were selected to play Warped Tour 2011 alongside the release of their EP “The Pits”. The band partnered up again with Steve Sopchak at Square Studios in Syracuse, NY to record their new LP. The quintet worked with Steve on “The Pits”, and after that experience felt he was the only man to take on their latest project.
The Venetia Fair released their 2nd full-length album “Every Sick Disgusting Thought We’ve Got In Our Brain” on March 1st to rave reviews. They were named one of Alternative Press’ “100 Bands You Need To Know in 2013” and have a few more things up their sleeves for fans this year. Stay tuned; it’s only just begun.
