Paper + Plastick Records has announced today the debut of a brand-new comic book series titled Story/Song. The first issue is currently available from the P+P webstore, and it features Flatfoot 56. It is available in physical format for $5 and digital-only webcomic format for $1.
As the name suggests, the new series will wed digital comics together with music. Flatfoot 56’s issue features the song “6’10” which originally appeared on the band’s most recent full-length record, Toil. The comic books in the series will offer a story inspired by the song associated with the issue. Future issues may have never-before-heard alternate versions of songs.
“We wanted to explore a new way to add visuals to songs,” says Paper + Plastick Records owner Vinnie Fiorello. “The visuals aren’t limited to literal interpretations of the song’s lyrics, but are more inspired by the feeling and attitude of the track.”
Story/Song offers a strong starting point for Paper + Plastick’s efforts expand further on its comic book department in 2013. The next issue of Story/Song is a comic book inspired by the celebrated No Use For A Name tune “Chasing Rainbows.” The song will be performed by The Swellers as a tribute to the late Tony Sly.
