Electronic duo Oh, Be Clever are making their debut in the UK with the premiere of their new single “Paint Me Gold.” The duo are just coming off a series of high profile shows with Tove Lo and Fitz and the Tantrums in the US and are a featured band for retail giant American Apparel. In anticipation of their first march into Europe to play a string of dates in Spring 2015, Oh, Be Clever have partnered with UK music blog Press Play to introduce their music to Europe with their latest track “Paint Me Gold.”

“This song was written at the darkest point in a 4 1/2 year long relationship,” vocalist Brittney Shields explains. “We were on and off during those years and, let me assure you, each year was drama filled and very torturous. I wasn’t a good girlfriend…and this poor guy just kept dealing with it and dealing with it, God knows why. He sort of put me on this pedestal. The reference of painted me gold comes from that form of idolatry they used in Bible terms. They worshiped the golden statues. This song is about admitting how wrong I was, how awful I was, but also pointing out that his side wasn’t as sweet as he played it to be, either. It’s so hard to explain without going into full detail, but I’ll just say that our love was as real as they come…but we were as toxic as poison for each other.”

Prior to forming Oh, Be Clever, Brittney Shields and Cory Scott Layton were members of separate bands whose utter disdain for each other led to physical violence. Late one night after a show, a fight broke out in the parking lot between the two bands, sans Brittney and Cory. Having always admired each other, Shields and Layton fled the scene to create their own music, and Oh, Be Clever was born.  Having worked with a range of producers including Kenny Carkeet on forthcoming tracks and 2015 touring planned, Oh, Be Clever are looking to plant their flag firmly in the European market.
