Overkill 2017 Tour @ The NorVa March 7th

By on March 14, 2017

Opener band Swallow the Sun started this chilly Tuesday night off right. A Finnish metal band formed in the early 2000. Rooted with a death metal sound they lit up the NorVa with melodic riffs and deep vocals.Next up to hit the stage Amorphis another Finnish metal band formed in 1990. Earlier years Amorphis has dabbled in progressive metal and folk metal ultimately leading to death metal. Heavy riffs and melodic vocals Amorphis certainly warmed up the crowd. I must say that I was enjoying their performance and music. One of the highlights of my night for sure. Next up Nile from Greenville South Carolina. Formed back in 1993 this death metal bands music is inspired by ancient egyptian history as well as works of H.P. Lovecraft. Starting off with Dusk Falls, Sebek and Defiling. The energy in the air was on high. With 7 more song to make your ears bleed they bid there goodbye and exit the stage. No what everyone has been waiting for. OverKill hits the stage running with Mean, green, killing machine which set the mosh pit going. Love how much attitude this band has. Next up Rotten to the core freaking shredding guitar riffs and vocals just calls back early thrash metal. Leading into Electric rattlesnakes keeps the tone going and the circle pit going. Playing a set of 11 kick ass songs and an encore set. Finishing the night with Ironbound, Elimination and last but not least “Fuck you”. What a great night of thrash metal from a band that still stay close to there roots.

Overkill has been around since the early 1980s and toured with band like Metallica, Anthrax and Testament. The grinding wheel release this year has been one of my favorite albums when I need a dose of thrash metal. It’s hard to believe but Overkill has18 albums to date and still killing it.
