Despite an early introduction to music, John Schmulowitz, otherwise known as Prismatic, initially didn’t see a future in it for himself. Even after years of piano lessons, he dismissed it as nothing more than an assigned chore. His musical interests leaned more toward video game and movie soundtracks, diverging dramatically from those of his peers, until 8th grade when he heard and connected with Coldplay, System of a Down, and The Gorillaz. Suddenly, the breadth and array of symphonic diversity engulfed him, quickly turning him on to everything from Trip Hop to Alternative, Old School Hip Hop to Classic Rock and Metal. Suddenly, with the introduction of Primus and the phenomenal antics of bass legend Les Claypool, John Schmulowitz found himself looking at himself as an aspiring musician, even if he didn’t know how he would trigger that progression.
The dilemma was resolved when he met Brady Wiggins (aka Fractal) who took the young artist under his wing, teaching him not only music but production. Forging his own path, at a time when EDM was just making it’s mark on US soil, he was drawn into electronic music by such luminaries as Bassnectar, Justice, Aphex Twin, and Chasing Shadows; later influences include Shpongle, Bluetech, Phutureprimitive, Skrillex, and Feed Me.
Playing among the genres–Dubstep, Drum and Bass, Electro House, Drumstep, Glitch Hop, Ambient, Psychadelic, jamtronica–Prismatic has made a name for himself with emotional, heavy, trippy, relentless, and innovative sounds
