This year marked the seventeenth annual Gathering of the Juggalos, a summer music festival mixing Hip Hop, Metal, Juggalos, and the great outdoors! The number 17 has had special meaning in the Juggalo world, because the Insane Clown Posse only sold 17 albums on the first day they dropped their First Joker’s Card. Since then it has become a special number within the community, so they put a lot into this year’s Gathering. With headliners like Insane Clown Posse, Twiztid, Tech N9ne, Rittz, Jelly Roll, Blaze Ya Dead Homie, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Kottonmouth Kings. Hed PE, Asking Alexandria, Gwar, Attila, and many more they put on a special show of the Wizard of the Hood. That only covers the main stage, there are two other stages, and even more events to be found at the Gathering.

We got there on Tuesday the day before they opened the gates and the parking lot was already filled with so many cars they had to start lining up down the road. There were people that had already been at the venue a week coming from the opposite side of the country. The parking lot alone was already full of life. Parked near us were some enterprising Juggalos that were selling tacos made from fresh bowls made with Faygo creme soda. It was the best $5 I had spent in awhile. Music was everywhere, being played from car windows, systems, Blue Tooth speakers, and generally anything that could play music. Fireworks were going off everywhere, and the partying was in full effect. They fixed a lot of the problems with the line from last year at will call and there was no line no wait. Everyone was able to get their tickets and passes with no issues. The were a couple food trucks parked out in the lot offering some decent BBQ… and the Gas station across the street could barely keep up with the amount of people coming in to buy drinks. The locals were amused at the amount of people that had come to their town and surprised at how friendly the Juggalos were to everyone.

The first day of the actual Gathering was a Wednesday and is when everyone gets there and gets their campsites taken care of for the event and find old friends.  It started off light with the events so people could do their thing, and the opening shows started on the second stage, with the headlining act of Kung fu Vampire. It was a good night with Strange Music Ces Cru, Rittz, and Tech N9ne were the main attention to the evening but Boondox, Suicide Silence were openers through the night. After the main stage was done was when everything seemed to come alive as there were many entertainment options. Second stage had Dayton Family, Axe Murder Boys, Big Hoodoo, and Esham. Third stage the had Project Born, Molly Gruesome, and Green Jelly. Jim Bruer had a comedy skit, there were Juggalo themed Ninja Olympics, Juggalo Family Feud, Texas Holdem Tournament, and Blacklight Bikini Smoke Part. As well there were countless parties going on at the campsites all around the packed venue. The number of people at this year’s Gathering was huge.

Thursday was the first full day of events and shows. You had opening acts playing sets all day, Wrestling tryouts, Autographs, seminars, auctions, Wet Tshirt contest, and more. The energy was crazy for the shows that night. It was the night of Wizards of the Hood and a lot of the old school Juggalos that haven’t been as active had come back for this. It was a great night for music. The openers for the Wizards of the Hood set was a mix of styles. We had Bukshot, Kissing Candice, Kotton Mouth Kings, ABK, and Gwar. KMK came out on the stage riding a Golf Cart taking Bong hits and set the crowd off. Gwar took over the stage and did their full glory, fake blood flying from the stage as they played. Wizard of the Hood set was everything that it should have been. They had massive Video screens behind them that illustrated the Adventure of the Yellowbrick Alley way. Twiztid took to stage with Violent J along with the rest of the crew. They were all in costumes, and they put on a hell of a show. It was a great night after main stage as well with Whitney Peyton, Mayday, Young Wicked, and Dark Lotus putting on sets. There was even more wrestling flavor. Lingerie contest, Juggalo Family Feud, DJ Battle Party, Joey Gay, and Dark Carnival Games. There was so much to do, and once again that doesn’t count the amount of parties and things that the Juggalos were hosting throughout the grounds the whole night.

Friday was more of the same awesome, with other new and fun events like the Neden Game, Costume Contest, Flow Master Rap Battle, and more.  Main stage was another epic night of shows with One Eyed Doll, Lil Wyte, Blaze ya Dead Homie, Attilla, Asking Alexandria, and Twiztid. It was a lot of fun having the mix of Hip Hop and Rock. It made it so that you never got quite used to what was going on. Majik Ninja Entertainment was the dominant label for the day and their talent did an awesome job keeping the Juggalos entertained. With the amount of people at this year the concert area was packed with people for every performance. That night after the main stage was one of hte move live nights of the whole Gathering. On the Second stage there was Lex the Hex Master, Wolfpac, Slick Rick, and the Killjoy Club. They had Bloody Mania that night at the Wrestling Ring, Into the Echo Side (Their new card game) Tournament, as well as the Rude Boy’s Foam to the Dome Party. The foam party was insane, and what happened in the bubbled stayed in the bubbles. The whole tent was so filled with bubbles that by the end of it, the stage sunk into the ground on the front corner ending the night.

Saturday was the last day of the Gathering and you could feel the shift of people’s energies. Everyone was a bit sad that the fun was about to end for yet another year. That did not stop us from having a live day.  Seminars, Autographs, Tattoo Contest, Miss Juggalette Pageant, and even more started off the day. This was one of my favorite lineups on the main stage for the event. We had Hed PE, Emmure, Jelly Roll, Hopsin, Bone Thugs N Harmony, and the Insane Clown Posse. It was a heavy hitting day for shows. There was a lot of talent on the stage, and it was an awesome end to a great year at the Gathering of the Juggalos.

The food this year was great, we had a lot of the same food people come out. It was mostly Fair Food, but there was a lot of good fried things out there. My personal favorite was the Gator on a Stick. Fried Alligator cooked in chicken spices with a great skin. My wife was a big fan of the Gyro which was chicken, tomato, lettuce, and tzatziki sauce. We had an awesome time this year at the Gathering, there was a variety of music and entertainment. As well the Juggalos were everywhere creating their own entertainment for people. Juggalo Artists showing up all around the campgrounds setting up their wares and selling to their people.  It was like a little marketplace, on top of that Hatchet Gear was selling a ton of Gathering Exclusive merch that dropped during the Gathering. If you have not been to a Gathering yet it can be hard to explain, but the event has been opening up to more than just Juggalos. People are starting to show up just to enjoy the culture. If you get a chance to check out a Gathering. I highly suggest you take it and have some fun!
