If you grew up in the 90’s and still feel a sense of nostalgia every time you hear Ugly Kid Joe’s cover of “Cats In The Cradle”, this release will definitely be an interesting one. The multi-platinum rock band is back and re-releasing their new EP Stairway To Hell with 3 additional bonus tracks.

The EP opens with “Devil’s Paradise” a raunchy throwback of some more “classic” metal vocals and distorted riffs. After an exciting start, the EP sort of hits a speed bump with its second track “You Make Me Sick” a decent headbanger of grove metal rhythms, but not a very climatic one—lacking any real explosive musical excitement. The acoustic rendition of the EP’s third song “No One Survives” is actually more effective than its thrashing original—with a more haunting ambiance and the use of darker chords.

“I’m Alright” (a personal favorite) is definitely the apex of this release; the song contains a soaring chorus, a catchy rhythm, and some killer hooks. The inclusion of an acoustic version of “Cats In The Cradle” as a bonus track is a nice touch, I mean, it’s still a great cover in its new form; I’m just not sure why it belongs on this EP. There are definitely a few standout tracks on the EP worth checking out, but a few numbers that just don’t really stick. You can pre-order your copy of Stairway To Hell on Amazon today; check out the video for “I’m Alright” below.
