The new EP from Virgina Beach’s Witness For Hope is six tracks of in-your-face, progressive metal. Their buzz song, “Welcome Home” (featuring Frankie Palmeri of Emmure)—a melodic metalcore number, rocking like an early Asking Alexandria—winds up the tempo with a killer, distorted lead under near-animalistic death shouts; before accenting with a tasteful trim of synth. Frontman Benjamin Green breathes the fire of a thousand voices (because fuck a thousand suns) on tracks like “Rise” (“Stay the fuck out of my way”). But Green’s visceral growls shine brightest on “Zero Hour”—in duet and stellar contrast with the guest vocals of Elisa Meri: delivered with a Gothic gloom, reminiscent of Lisa Miskovsky. @MattCrane
