San Francisco’s the Stone Foxes are excited to announce the release of the third song, in their “FoxesFirstFridays” single release series, “It Ain’t Nothin” that debuted on Last FM. The song started off as a heavy riff that brothers Spence (guitar, vocals ) and Shannon Koehler (vocals, harmonica, drums) came up with. The riff was then developed by the entire band into a massive sonically layered track that was missing one key element, the lyrics. Shannon and Vince Dewald (Vocals, Bass) sat down to take a different approach and write the song as a conversation between two friends. One friend is the aggressor pushing his timid friend to take a leap into the unknown. “I was having a hard time getting the verses to make sense as part of a conversation,” says Koehler (Shannon) “so I asked our buddy Bhi Bhiman to help us out, and we finished it together. We never thought we would ever be caught dead singing the word “fly” in a chorus. But it felt right singing it and playing it over the bumpy chorus line I guess we all have to take that leap from time to time.”
The Stone Foxes have been supporting their singles release campaign on the road with Gov’t Mule, Social Distortion, at CMJ and are rounding out the year with a series of residencies in Los Angeles at the Bootleg and in San Francisco at the Chapel. The band is using these residencies as a platform to raise awareness of a social issue very close to their hearts, hunger and homelessness. In each city they have partnered with a local charity, in Los Angeles Union Rescue Mission and in San Francisco Episcopal Community Services to collect canned goods and socks, and to raise awareness of what each organization does in their local community.
