Sarah Jaffe Announces Winter Tour with Fellow Texans Midlake

By on October 10, 2013

Sarah Jaffe is thrilled to be joining fellow Texans Midlake this December for a few weeks of US shows kicking off on December 4th in St. Louis, MO at Old Rock House.  The three week trek comes as Sarah starts work on her third full-length studio album due out next Spring on Kirtland Records.  In addition, Jaffe will be joining a number of notable artists including Girl Talk, Warpaint, Jason Isbell, Marnie Stern, POS and Titus Andronicus in Dallas, TX next weekend for the second day of the INDEX Festival (

It’s been a year and a half since Jaffe released her critically acclaimed sophomore album The Body Wins.  Since the release, she’s toured with Why?, Chelsea Wolfe, Blitzen Trapper, David Gray, State Radio and Norah Jones.  She did a series of hugely successful “Living Room” shows and she joined The Cannabinoids in early March at this year’s 35 Denton – billed as “The Cannabinoids featuring Sarah Jaffe.”  She made her late night TV debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! at the end of last year and Entertainment Weekly premiered her “mesmerizing” music video for “Mannequin Woman” earlier this year.  In addition, this past June her voice was featured in the score by Jon Brion for the theatrical release of Disney/Pixar’s The Blue Umbrella – the short film directed by Sashka Unseld that Pixar paired with Monsters University.  Just after the short came out, Sarah went into the studio with Midlake’s McKenzie Smith to record a couple of new songs – “Defense” and “Satire.”  Both songs were released this summer to raves with SPIN premiering “Defense,” describing it as a “smoky atmospheric rocker” and USA Today premiering “Satire,” commenting on the song’s “pensive and laid-back vibe.”

It seems only fitting then that Sarah would be joining Smith and Midlake for some tour dates this year following the release of Midlake’s latest album Antiphon (ATO Records, November 5).  Not only has Sarah worked in the studio with Smith, but Smith has drummed with Sarah’s band, and to top it off, Midlake were one of the first artists to take Jaffe on the road.  They brought her to Europe with them in Winter 2009, just before the release of her debut album Suburban Nature (Kirtland, May 2010).

In addition to the upcoming tour dates, Jaffe has a split 12” with fellow Texan David Ramirez coming out as part of the 17th installment in the limited-run “Daytrotter Presents” vinyl series this fall and she’ll be joining Steven Walters (Actor, Dallas Theater Center; founder, Second Thought Theater) and Bruce Wood (Founder, Bruce Wood Dance Company) at the Dallas Museum of Art for a Lecture on “Rising Talent in the Arts Scene” at 7:30pm on Thursday November 21st at the Horchow Auditorium.  The evening is presented by the Museum in partnership with Dallas’ PBS Channel KERA’s Art & Seek.
