First off: what a great way to spend a birthday! Halestorm and Shinedown put of an amazing show and had a huge response from the crowd. Despite it being disgustingly hot, a lot of people were in attendance. I would also like to give a special thank you to the hardest working man in concert security, Jake Lawson of Shinedown’s crew, for making the experience all the better.
This was my first show at a ball stadium, so I was unsure of what to expect. Overall, Parkview Fields in Ft. Wayne, IN supplied a great venue. The only issue I found was the lack of backstage and the placement of the stage. Home plate led to backstage, but the stage was in the outfield. The heat also played a factor, as alcohol was available and people forget that their bodies need water when it’s 100 degrees out and you’re in the blazing sun.
The stage shows were phenomenal, with all bands giving spectacular performances even though they were dripping sweat. Shinedown’s light show and performance were my personal favorite. A ton of energy and lots of purple(the best color ever!) and green lights and a beautiful response from the crowd. At one point the entire crowd was lit up and waving with lighter flames and cellphone flashlights. Halestorm’s show had an awesome crowd response as well with a huge amount of energy considering, again, the heat and sun.
The medics and park staff/security did a wonderful job of responding to persons in need as quickly as possible. Brent, of Shinedown, implored the crowd to help the medics by assisting fatigued concert goers to the edges so that medics could attend to them quicker and easier. It was amazing to see so many people together and working together for one great purpose. Imagine what would happen if more people would do the same.
I did not get to meet anyone from Halestorm aside from crew, who are stellar, caring people. While in the backstage area I did get to meet Brent, Barry and Zach, all of Shinedown, and all really great people. All three seemed very interested in their fans and how everyone felt about the show, even though they were visibly exhausted. They seem to be some of the nicest people I’ve met backstage to date.
All in all, it was an absolutely mind-blowing show with truly awesome and energetic performances. I will definitely be going to more Shinedown and Halestorm shows in the future.
