Singer-songwriter JOHN NOLAN will release his second solo album, Sad Strange Beautiful Dream, on July 27, 2015. Written and recorded over the past two years, the 10-track album was recorded in Long Island, New York with producer Mike Sapone (Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, Straylight Run) at the helm.

Nolan says, “It’s not quite like anything I’ve ever done before. I really wanted to put together a solo album sooner than this and I’ve had other windows of opportunity, but this time the songs luckily started coming together and all the pieces started falling into place. I’m so excited for everyone to hear it.”

Nolan, best known for his work with Taking Back Sunday and as frontman for the now-defunct indie pop outfit Straylight Run, independently raised the funds needed for the recording through a PledgeMusic campaign, while partnering with NY indie label Collective Confusion to market and distribute the release. Over a dozen different pre-order configurations exist for fans and a portion of the proceeds will go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Conceptually, Sad Strange Beautiful Dream offers insightful, thought-provoking commentary on the state of the world and modern society, cast through Nolan’s trademark flair for lyrical exposition. “Some of it is about what it’s like to be an American right now,” he says. “I don’t know if it’s just how I feel or if I’ve tapped into anything bigger than myself, but it’s about how I feel as an American in this time and place in history.”

Currently a Charlotte, North Carolina resident, Nolan will kick off a newly announced string of east and west coast dates later this summer starting in Philadelphia on August 19th. The tour takes him as far south at Chapel Hill, North Carolina before jetting west for a string of dates that begin in Phoenix, Arizona on August 26th and currently wrap up in Vancouver on September 3rd. Nolan released his first solo LP, Height, in 2009. His subsequent recordings include Live at Southpaw (2009), Live at Looney Tunes (2010), and studio EPs Songs I Wrote and Songs I Didn’t Write (2010).
