NY pop duo Slam Donahue has premiered a new video for ‘I Turn On,’ the first single from its debut Hemlock Tea EP, produced by Ayad Al Adhamy (Passion Pit, Team Spirit) and available now on Cantora Records (MGMT, Bear Hands). In the clip above, members David Otto and Thomas Sommerville go head to head with a middle school basketball team and make unexpected fans along the way.
Director Michael Lawrence says, “It was a bit challenging to direct a large gymnasium of children with only a few hours to shoot, but we embraced the documentary aesthetic and quite simply let the game play out, rolling our cameras.” The concept evolved to include “sexy mothers at a wrap party, a whirlpool bathtub, and some pretty amazing custom jerseys created by our art director, Kelly Thomas.” Lawrence adds, “What’s seemingly an underdog sports story, becomes a character-driven absurdist journey with Dave and Tom as they hang with the generations.”
Slam Donahue was tagged one of NYLON’s ‘#itlist: buzz bands‘ of CMJ ’12 and recently named a Prefix ‘Artist to Watch.’ Hemlock Tea follows the band’s ‘Big House Nice Dreams‘ mixtape released this past spring, and the band will continue to support the EP through upcoming NYC performances.
