I learned to play piano and sing throughout my childhood and later discovered my favorite pastime is chucking the two together. I launched into songwriting when I performed at a local Arts Centre Coffee House open mic night amongst the folk and country singers at the ripe young age of ten. Now at the age of nineteen my passion for music has never been stronger.
After a few years of working on a degree double majoring in Mathematics and English I realized my mind was programmed for music when I spent the days before exams writing and recording new songs instead of studying.
Most of the music I make revolves around intricate vocal parts but almost everything I write is composed on my beloved Roland keyboard. Inspiration for a song frequently comes from the tools available. My goal, as for many musicians, is to get the music to reflect the lyric, which then bond together to create an image in the listeners mind. I love experimenting with sound to create an atmosphere and tell a story.
I was born in Portland, Oregon and lived in the United States until I was twelve. Then my perfectly sane family took the leap half way around the world and moved to Auckland, NZ. Now that I am coming up on half my life in each country, I am proud to be an American and a Kiwi. The alternative contemporary sound to my music has come about from my exposure and background in both cultures. -Kaitlin
